MMES

Welcome to Merton Medical Education Service

We are a small team of teachers and specialist TA’s dedicated to ensuring Merton students, temporarily struggling to overcome a variety of medical conditions, receive the outstanding education they deserve.

Students can be referred by their mainstream school if they have or will have 15 days of absence from school because of their condition. The school will need medical evidence from a hospital consultant or from a CAMHS psychiatrist.

We can provide small group learning, online learning and in some cases home or library tuition; or a mixture of all/some of these.  An individual learning plan will be devised upon entry to our services and regular reviews with the mainstream school and medics, where appropriate, will be held to ensure the best possible outcome.  Our curriculum concentrates on the core subjects, English, Maths and Science. We work closely with other services to deliver a supportive curriculum: CAMHS, our own IAYPT trained Cognitive Behavioural Therapist, Speech and Language Therapy, Educational Psychology and My Futures. We also offer an enhanced PSHE curriculum, with the onus on building resilience and self-esteem amongst our young people.  We also provide transition support into the Post 16 environment, with advice on the right course, interview technique, CV filling and coping with an unfamiliar environment. We have developed this to include visits to the local 6th form colleges in the next academic year to support the year 11’s with a successful transition from MMES into post 16 education.
