The English Curriculum at Melbury College is there to support students at their current level presenting them with tasks which are commensurate with their age and ability.  The teaching offered is aimed at challenging students to ensure progression.

We follow the National Curriculum Programmes of Study at Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) and Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11).  Students are encouraged to further their literacy skills and build their self-esteem through the power and precision of language.

At all levels we study novels, plays and poetry as well as a variety of non-fictional texts, encouraging students to develop a broad range of language skills they can use throughout their lives.

At KS3 there is a focus on vocabulary development and acquiring cultural capital through the reading and analysis of fictional and non-fictional texts.

At G.C.S.E. we study relevant texts, novels, plays and poetry set down by the AQA examination board in both Language and Literature.

Students have the opportunity to engage in critical thinking and writing to help them achieve positive outcomes in their exams and equip them for adult life.
